Linking Aadhaar card and PAN card is made mandatory by the government of India as a measure to curb tax evasion and ensure that individuals do not hold multiple PAN cards under different names. It helps to create a more robust and accurate database of taxpayers and to prevent fraudulent activities such as obtaining multiple PAN cards for the same person.
Furthermore, linking Aadhaar and PAN makes it easier for the Income Tax Department to verify the identity of the taxpayers and to ensure that the information provided by them is accurate. It also facilitates the process of filing tax returns and receiving refunds as it enables the direct credit of refunds to the bank account linked with Aadhaar.
